Hollywood:Young and Skinny

From People Magazine upcoming issue: Never shy about flaunting her bikini body onscreen and off, Demi Moore had long been regarded as Hollywood’s most age-defying beauty.

But as the actress approaches her 50th birthday – and her marriage to Ashton Kutcher, 33, began to crumble – several sources tell PEOPLE in this week’s cover story that the 49-year-old star battled deep feelings of insecurity. In fact, sources say the star was barely eating and partying wildly before her drug-fueled breakdown.

“As Demi got older, she convinced herself that she needed to stay young and skinny to remain attractive to her husband,” says a source who knows the former couple.

There are several things going on in this story but ageing  well and with confidence is definitely the main issue.

When Demi married Ashton I was one of the few that didn’t think she would be able to handle it and I don’t even know the woman. She never seemed comfortable in her own skin and marrying a man, a man in Hollywood, seventeen years younger you have to be really comfortable with  who you are and your age.

I know several marriages where the wife is eight to ten years older than the husband and those marriages work great for them because those women are comfortable with who they are. Demi is a ‘show’ girl in a show business  where she is constantly in  ‘look at me mode’.  Remember all those twitter pics of her in a bathing suit in her bathroom? Grown women don’t do that but teenage girls do. RED FLAG right there. INSECURITY. Yes, I read all the blurbs, she was flaunting it because she had it but who was she trying to convince?

It seems she has gotten the message that it is all about her looks and unfortunately for women in Hollywood and many of us not in Hollywood it is about our looks. I feel for her and don’t judge her one bit. I can’t imagine the world she lives where one minute it’s all about your toned body, your youthful face, how sexy you are, blah, blah, blah and in an instant it changes. I can imagine how she felt trying to keep the eyes of a younger man on her while some twenty year old is throwing her boobs in his face. I wouldn’t want the struggle but its part of the price you pay in Hollywood…

Hopefully this is all a learning curve for her and in the next ten years she will live out her fifties really happy and confident with what is on the outside but more importantly what is on the inside!

Though beauty gives you a weird sense of entitlement, it’s rather frightening and threatening to have others ascribe such importance to something you know you’re just renting for a while.  Candice Bergen
Hollywood always wanted me to be pretty, but I fought for realism. Bette Davis
